Guess I'll leap right in and ask if anyone out there has hosted an event featuring the work of an author who is primarily known as a short story writer, although Lorrie Moore's newest book is an extremely well-received longer work. We have a substantial number of well-reviewed short story collections, but they rarely circulate. My concern is that most people in our community will not recognize Lorrie Moore's name, and name recognition carries substantial weight here. Also, without getting into the literary fiction v. genre fiction question, have you had success with more literary, as compared to mystery or romance authors, for example? How would you generate interest in an author whose work your community may not be familiar with? Do I forget an idea for a wonderful event or get to work 'spreading the Lorrie Moore message?'
